Business as usual<\/strong> is the Higher Emissions Scenario<\/strong> at the top. It throws the world straight into Plioscene era temperatures of 3 million years ago, by mid-century. The world was hot and inhospitable then. By the end of the century, temperatures are like the Eocene era of 50 million years ago, the last great extinction event. Palm trees were growing in the arctic swamps then, and most of today’s coast lines were under water. <\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The geological age analysis<\/strong> is from a ground-breaking study: <\/span>Pliocene and Eocene provide best analogs for near-future climates,<\/strong><\/a> by K. D. Burke<\/span> et al, published in Nature.com<\/span><\/span>. Per the authors, a significant finding of the study is: “The expected departure of future climates (differ) from those experienced in human history (and) challenge efforts to adapt”<\/em> .<\/span> An understatement of the planetary danger.
\n<\/span><\/span>

This Project was a Big Eye-Opener – <\/strong>Three years ago, when starting research, there was cautious optimism. Progress seemed to be taking place, toward a sustainable planet: (a) news about solar & wind power, (b) the Paris climate accord, and (c) productivity in agriculture,<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But more digging uncovered\u00a0many ugly “Earth Worms”<\/strong> – Statistics that are impossible to ignore, like the ones below. As hard data sinks in, turn to some of the proposed<\/span> Solutions<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
